How to Use Meal Planner

This guide explains the main parts of Meal Planner and how they fit together: planning meals, saving recipes, building a shopping list and sharing a family planner.

Weekly planner

  1. Use the arrows at the top of the planner to move between weeks.
  2. Tap an empty meal box to add a meal for that date and slot.
  3. Tap a filled meal box to edit or clear that meal.
  4. Use the calendar button to jump to a specific week.

Each date is separate. Changing Monday this week does not change Monday next week.

Meal ideas

  1. Open Meal Ideas from the menu.
  2. Choose Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner.
  3. Type a meal name and tap Add.
  4. Tap a saved meal idea to open its details.
  5. Use Edit to remove meal ideas you no longer want.

You can search within the current tab and sort ideas by recently added or A-Z.

Recipe scanning & importing

Open a meal idea, then choose Edit to add more detail. A recipe can include a picture, description, ingredients, method steps, nutrition and a recipe link.

You can import from a recipe webpage, scan a recipe QR code, choose a recipe photo or take a new photo. Clear, flat photos work best. For meal-kit cards, scan the front for ingredients and the back for method steps.

Shopping list

  1. Open Shopping List from the menu.
  2. Add items using the input at the bottom.
  3. Tap an item to check it off.
  4. Use the three dots on an item to edit or delete it.
  5. Use the list menu to uncheck all, clear the list or reorder items.

For food items, include a quantity when typing manually, for example 2 onions or 400g mince, so totals can combine correctly.

Family planner

A family admin can create a family group, invite another parent or create child profiles. Parents can update meals, meal ideas, shopping lists and individual date meal slots. Child profiles can view the planner and browse meal ideas but cannot edit the planner or shopping list.

Family members can suggest meals for open slots and vote on them. Parents can manage and finish votes so agreed meals can be added to the planner.

Premium features

Recipe ingredients can be viewed as original, metric or imperial measurements. Use the servings control to increase or decrease the recipe quantity. Imported recipe links use the serving size from the webpage when available. Recipe cards default to two servings.

From a recipe overview, use Add all to send every ingredient to the shopping list. Use Add selected if you already have some ingredients at home.

Feedback & support

The Account page shows your name, email, family group, role, theme, language, measurement preference and analytics setting. You can also change supported profile pictures and manage account deletion from this area.

Email support@mealplannerapp.co.uk with the app version, device model and what you were trying to do.

Troubleshooting

Recipe scan misses information

Take the photo closer, flatter and brighter. If a card has ingredients on the front and method on the back, scan both photos together when possible.

Family data is not updating

Check that both devices are signed into the intended accounts and belong to the same family group. If needed, close and reopen the app to refresh sync.

Shopping items are not combining

Use quantities for manual food entries. For example, 1 onion can combine with 2 onions, but onion by itself may be treated as a separate item.
